After more than half a year of
fighting, finally Artyomovsk (f.k.a. Bakhmut) has
been liberated. 20 of May 2023. Exactly one year
after the liberation of Mariupol (20 May 2022). A
summary can be made:
Things are going very bad for the NATO in its attempt to incorporate Ukraine. Therefore ever more sophisticated weapons have to be sent. The latest decision is to send F16 weapons. It remains to be seen if they will make a lot of difference, since they are basically at the end of a technical life (being nearly 5 decades in service), and maybe it is just a way of NATO countries to get rid of obsolete ordnance, but for sure it is a new escalation of the conflict which will postpone an end of war.
The rather naive hope existed among NATO countries that the mere fact of mentioning "F16" would make Putin cancel his activities in Ukraine. However, as expected (for those who understand what is at stake here), Putin did not waver, with Russia saying "The transfer of F-16 jets to Ukraine would raise the question of NATO's role in the conflict and would not undermine Russia's military goals, senior Russian diplomats said":
